The Everlasting Debate

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

I would really rather sleep.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

I will feel awesome when I’m done.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

My muffin top continues to grow.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

But I am really tired.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

It’s been 2 weeks.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

The workout doesn’t look too bad.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

I will lose nearly 2 hours of sleep.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

If not tomorrow, then when?

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

Starting again is the hardest part.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

I would really rather sleep.

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

I should and I did.

  1. Love it! I knew from the very first line “I would really rather sleep” what this poem would be about because I have the exact same thoughts. I lol’d at the muffin top part.

Congrats on actually doing it. I’m still choosing sleep. Can’t get started again!

  2. I know this debate all too well these days! I love the repetition of Should I? Shouldn’t I? It made me think about the inner conversation I have before deciding to jump on the treadmill (or more often this week, to jump off of it). Great piece!!!

  3. I am in awe of those who can find motivation for this in the morning. Your struggle is normal, but remember the feeling of satisfaction that you most assuredly have when you’rs done. You can do it!!

  4. My husband and I just had this same conversation last night about him starting running in the morning. He runs at night but it’s so late and he’s tired. We are trying to work out a schedule for our work outs but he wants to sleep and I don’t blame him. I need to be more flexible with my time so he can get his runs in. I love that you did go run though. Every little bit of encouragement helps, right? 🙂
